Dubai launches remote work visa Posted on 20 October 2020 Dubai is offering remote workers the chance to live within the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a yearly basis. Dubai is a central travel hub. Remote workers will be able to relocate to the UAE with their families and work virtually for their current employer. The programme, according to Lonely Planet, will allow visa-holders to open a bank account and send their children to school, which was something only residents were able to do in the past. His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, director general of Dubai’s department of tourism and commerce marketing said: ‘The global pandemic has changed how we live and work. As multinationals and leading start-ups across the world accelerate their rates of digital adoption, the need to be physically present to fulfill professional responsibilities has been redefined. ‘People continue to prioritize their health, wellbeing, and ability to ensure a positive work-life balance. Dubai is uniquely positioned to offer a safe, dynamic lifestyle opportunity to these digitally savvy workers and their families while they continue to work remotely, whether it is for a couple of months or an entire year.’ Terms and conditions Those looking to apply for the visa have to provide proof of income amounting to a minimum of $5,000 (R82,644) per month, as well as proof of employment. Coupled with this, a visa fee of $287 (R4,744) must be paid, along with medical insurance. To apply for the visa, head to the Visit Dubai website.
