David Attenborough’s new Africa series released Posted on 17 January 2013 Tags:Africa, Congo, South Africa David Attenborough and the team that created ‘Life’ have finally finished their next series, ‘Africa‘. The statistics surrounding it are pretty impressive: the crew spent four years filming in 27 countries, and ended up with 2 000 hours of footage (to watch it all would take two months, non-stop). As can be expected from the BBC, the quality of the filming is world-class. One of the shots from the official Africa trailer on Youtube shows an epic giraffe battle in slow motion, some of the most breathtaking scenery on the continent and just basically wildlife in action like you’ve never seen it before. The show also promises to show us the biggest rhino gathering in the world is captured by a camera that uses the light of the stars, and microphones embedded in the banks of the waterhole, as well as lizards who hunt for flies on sleeping lions. There are six episodes, ranging from ‘Kalahari’ to ‘Congo’, and the series airs in South Africa on BBC Knowledge on 17 February. Find out more about the individual episodes on the BBC South Africa – Africa page. Win a 21-day East Africa safari adventure We’ve teamed up with BBC Knowledge and Nomad Tours Africa to give away awesome weekly prizes around the show as well as a grand prize of a 21-day East Africa safari adventure for two worth R24 000!
