COVID rapid tests available at OR Tambo, Cape Town International Airport Posted by Anita Froneman on 17 February 2021 Travellers planning trips abroad will need to provide valid negative COVID-19 test results as well as an antigen test. Dis-Chem Pharmacies now offer rapid antigen tests at OR Tambo International Airport and Cape Town International Airport. ‘This rapid antigen test is a nasopharyngeal test which provides results in approximately 15 minutes and will reveal if a person is currently infected with the Covid-19 pathogen,’ Dis-Chem said on its website. ‘Rapid antibody testing and PCR swab tests are also available at these airport testing sites that are currently operational from 08h00 to 17h00 daily but hours may be extended as more international flights become available.’ The fee for the Rapid Antigen test is R350 and results are available in 15 minutes. Currently, South Africans are able to travel internationally from OR Tambo International Airport, King Shaka International Airport and Cape Town International Airport. However, travellers must confirm their destination’s entry requirements and ensure that its borders are open to South African passport holders, as several countries have banned arrivals from the country. Visitors entering South Africa are still subject to the following requirements: – Provision of a valid certificate of a negative COVID-19 test obtained not more than 72 hours before the date of travel – In the event of failure to submit a certificate as proof of a negative COVID-19 test, such person will be required to do an antigen test at his or her own cost and if he or she tests positive to COVID-19, he or she will be required to quarantine at his or her own costs.
