Comical sighting of elephant wriggling down a riverbank Posted on 18 June 2021 Elephants are majestic and stately animals, dignified and intimidating. Most of the time. Other times, they wriggle down river banks on their stomachs, and all grace flies out the window. Kruger National Park visitor Pieter Viviers came across this comical sighting near Shingwedzi Rest Camp a few days ago. A fully grown elephant was clambering down a riverbank with a vertical drop of about 2 meters. Elephant laying flat on its stomach trying to climb down the riverbank. “The elephant lay down on its stomach and pushed his front legs over the edge of the embankment. He then started to wiggle his body forward so his front legs would eventually touch the ground,” Viviers said. Its feet finally hit the ground and he continued to wiggle his body forward until it was able to move its hind legs over the edge. After a lot of wiggling and trying to keep its balance, all four legs were eventually on solid ground and he pranced off, continuing with his day.
