City of Cape Town to increase trail security Posted by David Henning on 22 December 2022 The City of Cape Town will assist SANParks this festive season to ensure the safety of popular hiking spots. Trails within the Table Mountain National Park had seen a spate of muggings in the past with the City’s Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, saying that is impossible to maintain a constant presence on these trails. ‘Instead the City uses a data-led enforcement approach to assist both SAPS and SANParks’ with enforcement working in ‘tandem with numerous other agencies and organisations to ensure integration all year-round, but with special emphasis on the festive season.’ Support will be in the form of increased patrols, by area law enforcement staff and the Law Enforcement Tourism Unit.
