Celebrate your birthday at the top of Table Mountain Posted on 20 May 2021 It is not often that we still get things for free these days. Table Mountain Cableway Company has reminded the public that they can still enjoy their birthday on top of the natural wonder, and it wouldn’t cost them a cent. As nature enthusiast Biddy Love experienced, locals, can enjoy this very special occasion with friends and family on top of Table Mountain for free during their birthday month. She says that she claimed her free ticket in March this year to celebrate her 70thbirthday with her family. ‘The first time I experienced a ride in the cable car was back in 1974. Being able to do it again for my birthday was incredible! I was thrilled at the state-of-the-art 360-degree rotating floor, which was not a feature of the cable car back then.’ Reminiscing on its rustic stone design, Love reckons that the highlight of her special day was noticing that the curio shop at the top of the mountain still looked exactly as it did when she first saw it back in the ‘70s. To allow people more time to claim their free birthday tickets, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company extended its ever-popular Birthday Special last year to allow visitors to claim their birthday tickets any time during their birthday month. Since the change, more than 13 700 have claimed their trip up to the top of Africa’s leading tourist attraction. In March this year, 2 397 visitors took advantage of this offering – which is a staggering 341% year-on-year increase for the same period in 2019. ‘Our goal has always been centered around creating greater access to the mountain for all – especially on their birthdays. It is why we encourage everyone to claim their ticket during their birthday month,” says Wahida Parker, Managing Director at Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC). Tickets are only available to South African citizens during their birthday month. It can be claimed on any day that falls within the calendar month in which you celebrate your birthday. Don’t leave it for too late in that month though, as the operation of the cable car depends on weather conditions. This offer of a free ticket extends to children as well, as long as they are accompanied by an adult. To claim your free ticket, you will have to present a valid South African identity document, driving licence or birth certificate on arrival at the Cableway.
