Celebrate World Bee Day Posted by Anita Froneman on 20 May 2020 Bees are so small yet so vitally important. Today we celebrate these little pollinators and the role they play in sustaining our fragile eco-system. The origin of this day dates back to 1734, to the birth date of Anton Janša, the pioneer of beekeeping. He was born in what is known today as Slovenia. To celebrate, non-profit organisation Elephants Alive based in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park posted an exciting video on the process of making honey. ‘Elephants Alive’s Bees, Trees, Elephants & People Project has grown from strength to strength since its humble beginnings in 2015.’ ‘Our beehives continue to successfully protect marula trees against elephant impact, whilst the bees continue to produce delicious tasting honey that we have sold across South Africa,’ they write on Facebook.
