Celebrate cherry season at this new cider-tasting room Posted on 6 December 2019 Tags:Ceres, cherry, cherry picking, cider, Loxtonia It’s cherry season and to celebrate the blooming of cherries across South Africa, Loxtonia Cider invites cider lovers to experience their new tasting room overlooking the Ceres valley. Situated at the beginning of the cherry route in Ceres, the tasting room is on the family-owned Loxtonia Farm. The floor to ceiling glass window provides a panoramic view of the Ceres Valley and the surrounding apple orchards – highlighting the ‘orchard to bottle’ philosophy. It’s here that you can enjoy Loxtonia Cider, freshly pressed and naturally fermented, which is preservative- and artificial additive-free. The ciders come in six varieties, Crispy Apple Cider, Sparkling Apple Cider, Stone Fruit Flavoured Apple Cider, Pale Amber Apple Cider, African Sundowner Baobab Flavoured Apple Cider and the limited edition Cherry Flavoured Apple Cider. The tasting room has been designed to complement the stainless steel tanks in which the ciders are cooled with rustic wooden touches to celebrate the art of the cider-making. Larry Whitfield, Founder & Head Cider Maker of Loxtonia Cider explains, ‘We wanted to continue our commitment to sustainability by embracing a zero-waste philosophy wherever possible’. The wood used in the tasting room is made from recycled wooden crates used to transport their cider press from Germany – a personal yet sustainable touch that confirms their commitment to remain true to their roots in every endeavour. Visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of tasting experiences, where a combination of all six variants of cider can be tasted, including the limited-edition cherry flavoured apple cider. In addition to the tasting, farm-grown cherries will also be on offer as well as delicious tasting snacks to complement each experience. Cost: Tastings range between R30 to R80, which includes all 6 cider flavours. Private tasting experiences will also be available for bookings of a maximum of 17 people, at R150 per person, which includes an exclusive tour of the farm grounds and snacks. The Loxtonia Cider tasting room will also be providing unique specials where individuals who purchase a case of cider will get a free case of sparkling Prosecco-styled apple cider. Specials will run until 31 December 2019 while stocks last and are only available when purchased from the Tasting Room.
