A massive R2.4 million revamp is in motion for the St James beachfront in Cape Town. The plans include replacing the old green, blue, yellow, and red bathing boxes with new ones, as well as widening the walkway and picnic area, reports News24.

Eddie Andrews, deputy mayor and mayoral committee member for spatial planning and environment, said that the bathing boxes were ‘derelict beyond repair’ and that the ‘new boxes are already being installed.’

‘The walkway will be widened to 1.9 m, wide enough to allow for more pedestrians. A seating wall and sitting step will also be added, and the picnic area will be upgraded by adding topsoil and new grass,’ reports News24.

Other improvements will include removing the bathing boxes between the ablutions and seaward point for better views and more space, surfacing the entrance area, and shifting the shower facilities to a concrete slab off the beach.
