Cape Town ranked in world’s best beer cities

Posted on 3 September 2019

Cape Town has made it onto CNN’s list of top 15 best beer cities. The craft beer revolution which continues to take over Cape Town’s bars and restaurants has made the city an official beer destination for those looking for top quality brewing.

As the only African city on the list, Cape Town takes its place next to beer brewing heavyweights like Germany and Belgium as a great travel pick for those who love a pint.

Cape Town was selected for it’s ever-growing list of craft breweries which have helped diversify the market, still mostly held by South African Breweries.

Jack Black and Umkhamba Beerworx are recommended along with Banana Jam café for their excellent and interesting drinking options. Jack Black is noted for its experienced owners, flagship taproom and malty “pre-Prohibition-style” Brewers Lager or Butcher Block pale ale.

Umkhamba Beerworx gets the nod as the first black-owned microbrewery which uses traditional Nguni brewing techniques to create cheekily named modern versions, including their State Capture Indian Pale Ale.

Banana Jam café’s wide range of beers on tap including their house brews, Afro Caribbean Coconut IPA or Pirate Porter, finishes off the recommendation for those wanting to try a range of local options.
