Cape Town loses top spot on UK holiday list thanks to price of sunscreen Posted by David Henning on 11 October 2022 The price of sunscreen in Cape Town is the culprit that resulted in the Mother City losing out on the top spot on the UK Post Office’s Long Haul Holiday Report. Clifton Beach: Picture: jbdodane/ Flickr Commons Cape Town narrowly lost out to Han Noi in Vietnam, where the cost of holiday items totalled £67,78 (about R1 339). Cape Town fell just short of the top spot, where the average total for holiday items will set a traveller back £68,49 (about R1 359). The annual report surveyed 28 long-haul destinations for the cost of common holiday items like a cup of coffee, a three-course meal and a bottle of water, and the price of sunscreen let Cape Town down. The survey found the price of sunscreen in Cape Town costs on average £8,92 (R160) versus £5,35 (R100) in Han Noi. The UK is known for its lack of sunlight in some parts and sunscreen is likely an important travel item for British travellers visiting sunny South Africa. But as Cape Town’s tourism eagerly sector awaits the December season, let’s hope this key market won’t mind spending just a bit more time in the shade and flock to our shores all the same. Here are the report’s top 10 most affordable destinations: Hoi An, Vietnam (£67.78) Cape Town, South Africa (£68.49) Mombasa, Kenya (£77.41) Tokyo, Japan (£81.63) Bali, Indonesia (£82.40) Phuket, Thailand (£93.53) Rio, Brazil (£102.25) Montego Bay, Jamaica (£110.67) Orlando, USA (£111.87) Penang, Malaysia (£111.93) ALSO READ: Dolphins seen chasing great white away near Plettenberg coast Related Posts Cape Town’s sustainability: Leading the way in environmental initiatives 1 June 2023 As National Environmental Month commences in South Africa, Cape Town stands proudly at the forefront... read more Kapama to host Safari Guide of the Year Awards 2023 1 June 2023 Kapama Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit will host this year’s Safari Guide of the Year... read more Blood Lions relaunches for public viewing on YouTube 1 June 2023 Award-winning documentary feature film Blood Lions has been relaunched on YouTube for public viewing, creating... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
