Cape clawless otters commandeer boat in St Francis Bay

Posted by Taylah Strauss on 9 May 2022

Cape clawless otters are found all along the east coast, but they are sparsely scattered and not often seen. These creatures are notoriously elusive, quick in the water and often hidden in burrows on land.

So, spotting one is not all that common!

But conservation research group Sea Scape has been tracking the Cape clawless otter with acoustic recorders and hit the jackpot!

Local resident Linda Lombard captured the encounter and posted it on the St Francis Bay Facebook group.

Watch this group of clawless otters have a Pirates of the Caribbean moment.
