Bree there, or be square: Cape Town closes streets for open-air dining Posted by Taylah Strauss on 15 December 2021 The City of Cape Town has announced a new initiative aimed toward both boosting tourism this summer and helping diners feel safer. This initiative entails closing certain streets to vehicles and opening them to pedestrians and diners only, allowing for safe open-air dining and ample street space. Cape Town will close Bree Street between Hout and Wale from 2pm to 11pm starting December 18. Twenty eateries thus far will be partaking in this initiative, offering a unique dining experience and live music. The hopes are to expand this initiative in the coming weeks to include other streets such as Harrington and Long street, as well as more restaurants.
