Blue Flag beaches reopen in Durban

Many of Durban’s Blue Flag beaches have reopened after an E.coli scare in August, where most of them were shut down.

The beaches in question include Point, uShaka, Addington, North, and Brighton, which are extremely popular among international tourists. Other beaches that have been reopened are South, Wedge, Bay of Plenty, Battery, Country Club, Reunion, Pipeline, Toti Main, and Warner.

Unfortunately, there are still several beaches that remain closed; Westbrook, Bronze, Laguna, Thekwini, Umhlanga, Umdloti, and Mgababa.

In order to ‘ensure public safety,’ the water quality is still being tested regularly, reports Travel News.

The North Coast of KwaZulu Natal has remained unaffected by the E.coli scare and ‘is confident its high-season tourism and hospitality numbers will outpace even pre-pandemic levels.’
