Augrabies Falls reaches 4 500 cubic meters over the weekend Posted by Jordyn Johnson on 6 March 2023 ‘The place of great noise,’ or the Augrabies Falls is making even greater noise at 4 479 cubic meters due to country-wide flooding and Cyclone Freddy over the past few weeks. READ: Rainfall expected to intensify when Cyclone Freddy makes landfall After releasing a huge volume of water into the Orange River from the Vaal Dam, the Augrabies meter reading has continued to rise. The DFA, a local newspaper in the Northern Cape, reported that visitors will be able to enjoy this phenomenon for the next few weeks. A cumec is a ‘cubic meter per second.’ For perspective, the Falls usually reach an average of 40 – 60 cumecs year-round. Last year, after intensive flooding the Augrabies Falls reached 3 800 cumecs.
