Air New Zealand offers mystery trips to boost tourism

Air New Zealand is offering locals an exciting experience in a bid to revive their domestic tourism. Daring travellers can book a ‘Mystery Break’, and the airline puts together an entire secret trip within the country for you.

The passengers are notified of their destination only two days before the flight.

The movie set of The Lord of the Rings is located near Hamilton, one of Air New Zealand’s destinations.

Travellers can choose between three packages: Great, Deluxe or Luxury starting from $599 AUD (R6,942) for two nights. You can select your dates, and one place you are not interested in seeing. All the rest is up to chance!

The adventurous travellers will end up in one of 20 destinations in New Zealand. Upon landing, your rental vehicle awaits you, and you make your way to your 3 or 4-star hotel. From there, the world’s your oyster.

New Zealand is still closed for international tourism and the country is avidly trying to boost its local tourism. According to CNN, the national tourism body Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA), has requested the government give every resident a $200 (R2,316) voucher to spend at tourism-related businesses like hotels and attractions.

The Oceania island has recorded 1,937 confirmed cases of COVID-19 of which 1,831 recovered, and 25 deaths as of October 21.
