Africa’s Eden in-destination travel show kicks off in Vic Falls

Posted by Lauren Dold on 4 February 2022

Beyond Victoria Falls lies a vast wilderness of untamed beauty – Africa’s Eden. Africa’s Eden includes conservancies in the four countries that make up the KAZA region, encompassing several National Parks, protected areas and wildlife estates.

Africa’s Eden travel show kicks off in Victoria Falls this weekend, where stakeholders will be coming together to promote cross-border travel between the four countries that make up KAZA and the show will be in full swing from 6-9 February 2022.

‘We have 70 buyers from 20 different countries, and 75 exhibitors from Africa’s Eden. The buyers were nominated by exhibitors and then weighted, their invitation included all flights (with our partner airlines Qatar, and regional connections with Fastjet, BA Comair, Pro-flight, and FlyNamibia) – they were then treated to pre and/or post tours with Africa’s Eden members that were five days in duration and included two or more destinations,’ says Jillian Blackbeard, CEO of Africa’s Eden.

This continuous landscape covers a staggering 520,000 square kilometres; comprising numerous migration routes, a place of unparalleled biodiversity and magnificent scenery, and home to hundreds of mammal, bird, reptile, fish and plant species.

These combined conservancies offer a wide variety of options for wilderness, safari, conservation and adventure activities for visitors to Africa’s Eden.

Victoria Falls is in full flow

Africa’s Eden, a name shared by the region itself and the tourism association that represents it,  is a private sector, membership-based organisation representing the tourism ecosystem in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Over 800 000 people are employed in tourism in the region, and Africa’s Eden represents the entire tourism sector. There are over 400 members, from small local suppliers, operators and businesses, to lodges, restaurants, tourism companies and attractions.

Particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, Africa’s Eden endeavours to strengthen the tourism industry in the region, with Victoria Falls as its hub. Victoria Falls was one of the fastest-reacting towns in the region, quickly establishing multilingual Covid awareness campaigns and hotlines, putting in place excellent safety measures and food security protocols.

This trend has continued throughout the pandemic, with Vic Falls being one of the first towns to reach “herd immunity” status as over 76% of the population was fully vaccinated by June 2021.

The 2022 trade show is a conference featuring destination partners from across Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe and tour operators and travel buyers from all over the world.
