ACSA creates more parking to ease festive pressure at OR Tambo Posted by Tsoku Maela on 22 November 2022 With an estimated 1 million people expected to pass through Africa’s biggest airport during the festive season, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has made more parking available at the O.R Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) ahead of time. Picture: Getaway gallery Parkade 2 North has been redesigned to alleviate pressure at the Central pick-up point in Parkade 2 South and can be used for the pick-up and drop-off of travellers or airport users. ‘As airport management, we believe that the repurposing of Parkade 2 North will indeed make the travellers’ experience more pleasant,’ said Regional General Manager, Jabulani Khambule, speaking to CAJ News. However, drivers have been warned by ACSA not to leave their cars unattended, or to exceed the grace period for drop-offs, as they could face normal parking tariffs or a hefty R2,000 fine. ‘We estimate that the average pickup and drop-off transaction can take up to five minutes; we advise passengers to take this into account as they plan their entry or exit from the airport,’ ACSA said. In anticipation of the busy festive schedule and a high number of travellers in South Africa’s major airports, ACSA has put out a reminder to arrive as early as two hours for domestic flights and 3 hours for international travellers. As we fast approach the festive season, please keep these airport arrival times for check-in top of mind. #Aviation #ACSA #FestiveReadiness pic.twitter.com/Av6rwOUJi7 — Airports Company SA (@Airports_ZA) November 17, 2022 ‘We advise passengers to take this into account as they plan their entry or exit from the airport,’ Khambule said.
