2023 starts off with a splash as Gauteng experienced flooding on Thursday

After the South African Weather Services issued a level 9 weather warning, Guateng experienced flooding in parts of the province on Thursday, 5 January.

Two incidences in Pretoria occurred where vehicles were ‘submerged under low-lying bridges’ along roads in Pretoria News24 reported. Tshwane emergency services and metro police responded, however, there were no casualties to report.

Gauteng Weather shared on Twitter that there were ‘multiple reports on motorists trapped in floods in parts of Pretoria North on Thursday afternoon.’

Deputy chief Charles Mabaso said that ‘motorists are advised to exercise caution around those areas, and incidents that are life-threatening must be reported to the Tshwane emergency services.’ Disaster management teams are on high alert in high-risk areas.
