12 suspected poachers arrested in Kruger Posted on 27 February 2019 Over the last two weeks, 12 suspected poachers have been apprehended in the Kruger National Park by SANParks rangers and members of the police force. On 19 February, the South African Wildlife College’s anti-poaching unit alongside its free-running K9 unit succeeded in capturing two poachers before any animals were harmed. Read the article here. On Thursday 21 February, three men were arrested and charged with being in possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, trespassing and being in possession of a dangerous weapon. Another two men were also arrested for being in possession of a firearm without a license and trespassing in the same week as the other three suspects. Then, on Monday 25 February, another three men were caught in the Stoltznek region of the park with a .458 rifle in their possession along with ammunition and a silencer. The men appeared in the Mapulaneng Magistrate’s Court the following day. Two weeks ago, four people were arrested at one of the park’s gates, with ‘freshly cut’ rhino horns, a hunting rifle and ammunition. A member of SANParks was among one of the four arrested.
