Road trippin’ part two: from Botrivier to Groot Brakrivier Posted by Taylah Strauss on 22 July 2022 After stopping by Oude Post Bistro for some delicious roosterkoek, it was us, our four wheels and the open road once again. READ: Road trippin’ part one: from Cape Town to Groot Brakrivier We continued down the N2 for roughly three or four hours, making only one pit stop by Skeerhok Padstal. READ MORE: June Farm Stall of the Month: Die Skeerhok Finally, after a long day on the road, we made it to Seeplaas in Groot Brakrivier, where we received a warm welcome from the manager, Mariana. Our room at the coastal hideaway was practically right on the beach with only a small patch of luscious greenery between us. We had an endless vista of unspoilt coastline with soft, golden sand contrasted against the icy blue water. My favourite part, however, was the deep plunge bathtub, which was pretty much calling my name the second we walked in the door. Wiped out from a day of travelling, we fell asleep to the lull of the roaring waves a few feet away from us. We kicked off the next day the right way: with complimentary breakfast at the on-site restaurant while enjoying the sunrise. After breakfast, we decided to take a drive down to George to visit Redberry Farm. Instead of doing the usual strawberry picking, we decided to explore the hedge maze – the largest permanent hedge maze in the southern hemisphere. The maze normally takes half an hour to an hour but since we were in no rush we took a solid two hours. We found all the checkpoints and got a cool prize at the end! Then, it was time to sit down at the on-site restaurant for some wood-fired pizza. Back at Seeplaas, we spent our second night in a bubble tent. Have you ever wanted to stargaze from your bed? Step inside. The bubble tent – the only of its kind in South Africa that faces the Indian Ocean – is secluded and offers complete privacy and tranquillity. We watched the sunset from the wood-fired hot tub while enjoying a charcuterie board. And that concluded our stay in Groot Brakrivier. We were set for another day on the road the following day, back to Botrivier where we would stay at Avani Lodge.
