Green Point gem: Headsouth Lodge Boutique Hotel Posted on 7 July 2012 Tags:Cape Town, Kenya, Paris It’s not often that I get to stay in a hotel in my own home town, Cape Town. But, I had the luxury of staying at Headsouth Lodge Boutique Hotel last month. Headsouth Lodge is situated in the hub of Green Point, on the Main Road, gracing the pavement with a certain je ne sais quoi. I could have been in Paris. The entrance breathed the warmth of art deco and I was welcomed by a lady called Ramona with the kind of quality that matched. To the right of the reception area is an impressive staircase that winds you upwards towards your contemporary double room that boasts a bed that guarantees you the best night’s sleep in the entire world. You cannot beat the crisp and fresh cotton/percale linen. And you can welcome the new day with a perfectly conditioned super-sized en suite shower. The rooms are fully kitted to suit your every need. Rooms range from a reasonable R975 to R1400 per night. I negotiated a special rate of R750 for the night. It was worth every cent. The hotel was perfect to service my girls’ night out – a hen night that I’d been invited to. I was welcomed by 24 hour security after ending the night at Deco Dance nearby. I felt completely safe and Ramona organised me a taxi, via Excite, the local taxi firm. I knew that I was in good hands. The morning after the night before, I was treated to a deliciously prepared breakfast (included in the price). Scrambled eggs, fried mushrooms and whole-wheat toast, I chose. There was a vast selection of cereals, fruit, and yoghurt as well. And it was at this moment that I learned that it is the coffee that can separate the ’boutique’ from the ’boutiques’. I was poured a brew that must have flowed out of Kenya’s soul – smooth, rich and unique. The owner, Jeff Levy saw the expansion of his hotel in 2009, to 22 rooms and he was also the innovator behind the style and design of this establishment. His pride is the personal service and truly local experience that he and his staff provide and his passion for the industry is what drives him to promote local culture to every visitor. He has travelled widely across the country and the globe, and firmly believes that we have the best that there is to offer. ‘There’s no other country quite like this one. I drive from Claremont to Green Point in the early hours each day, and I can tell you that I don’t take the beauty that this city holds for granted, ever,” he said. After breakfast, I said farewells, and had the pleasure of driving home towards Noordhoek via Signal Hill and the Atlantic Sea Board, and marvelled at the expanse of blue across the bay. Yet another luxury not to be taken for granted, I say. Headsmouth Lodge Boutique Hotel’s rooms are en suite, with a satellite TV, iPod speakers and air conditioning.
