These six campsites near Johannesburg are all within one and a half hours’ drive from the city, and they are perfect for a camping trip. Pack your fishing rods and swimwear too, because some of these campsites have beautiful dams perfect for a little bit of adventure. 1. The Bush Willow Tented Camp is situated in the Muldersdrift countryside and offers a unique outdoor experience. There are two styles of tents – the open-plan tent, and the partitioned tent. Each tent includes 6 camper-style single beds with mattresses, kitchen compartment, toilet, and shower. Campers can enjoy a good braai in the Boma area while soaking a sunset. Enjoy game viewing, improve your fishing skills and take on the Zwartkops Mountain for a hike. Homo Naledi, a new species of human relative was discovered nearly 10 km away from the camp in The Cradle of Humankind. This rustic camp is ideal for a relaxing getaway, family gatherings, conferences, and even weddings. The bush camp has six tents, and two tented stands with four tents on each. Facilities on the site include a hut-shaped dining area to enjoy meals with your family or friends and a boma where the elders can enjoy a deserved drink while sitting around the fire. Soetdoring Vakansieplaas 1 hour away from Johannesburg Soetdoring Vakansieplaas is located in Lenteland just outside Falconridge in Vereeniging. Its caravan park is surrounded by a forest of trees and is perfect for campers who want to get away from all of the city lights and everyday rush. This camping resort is not available for any day visits; it is strictly for campers. Soetdoring Vakansieplaas is perfect for the kids as its facilities include trampolines, an outdoor chess set, and a playground area. The farm has diverse birdlife and small giraffe that roam around. Mountain trails along the dams and woody mountain slopes are perfect for the more adventurous camper.
