7 Valentine’s date ideas in Cape Town for under R200 per person Posted by Anita Froneman on 7 February 2022 Valentine’s Day is a special occasion for couples who celebrate, and it’s always fun to do something exciting while spending quality time together. But, we’ve barely packed up our Christmas decorations and our wallets are still bearing the brunt of a December holiday well spent. That doesn’t mean you can’t plan a perfectly marvellous date with your loved one. Here are seven romantic things to do in Cape Town, and they’re all under R200 per person. 1. Find your balance with stand up paddling Stand up paddling is good exercise, improves your balance and of course, involves water and sunshine. The perfect combination for the perfect date. Race each other or just leisurely cruise the ocean, dam or canal, wherever you choose to paddle. SUP Cape town offers paddling on the sheltered canals around the V&A Waterfront, which is perfect for first-timers. Alternatively, rent some boards and take to the open ocean! Try: SUP Cape Town Cost: R150 per person for 30 min Contact: 071 603 8388 2. Rollerskate your heart out When last did you lace up for some roller skating? Yes, it still exists, and it’s just as epic as it’s always been. If ice skating is not your forte, try this instead. Good laughs guaranteed. Try: Rollercade Cost: R150 per person for two hours Contact: +27 72 064 3963 3. Flex your muscles at indoor rock climbing Indoor rock climbing has become wildly popular in Cape Town because it’s not weather-dependent and is traditionally more novice-friendly than outdoor climbing. If it’s your first time, it’s a good idea to ask an instructor for some pointers. Try: City Rock Cost: From R110 per person per day, excludes equipment rental Contact: 021 447 1326 4. Cheers to beer tasting If you’re not super keen on an active date, and you’ve already tasted all the wine there is to taste, kick back and go beer tasting. South Africa produces excellent local beers, most of which are brewed in Cape Town. Learn more about the process of beer brewing and the different styles of beer, or just enjoy the experience and choose your favourite one. Try: Cape Brewing Company at Paarl Spice Route Cost: R55 per person for four beers Contact: 021 863 2270 5. Love is… Volunteering at an animal shelter If you and your partner are animal lovers, volunteering at a shelter for a day is a great opportunity to help take care of animals in need. Several charity organisations do wonderful work by rescuing abandoned or mistreated dogs and cats, and they’re always in need of people to help groom, walk or play with the furry friends in their care.
