Backpackers in this part of the world seem to have gotten things right. If you’ve ever stayed at a backpackers along this coast, you’ll know why it’s so special. For those who haven’t, here’s a list of places to stay to get you acquainted. 1. Buccaneers Lodge and Backpackers – Chintsa Situated on a very spacious property that also has the option of cottages, the lush, indigenous farm has views overlooking the lagoon and beach. Bulungulu Lodge – Bulungulu River mouth, Coffee Bay Overlooking the pearly white sands while perched among rolling green hills, this eco-lodge is a slice of paradise, run by the local community. Guests can take a horse ride to the Xhora River, where you can also canoe upstream into the forest and take a dip wherever you choose while having your nights accommodation in a classic rondavel. Sugarloaf – Coffee Bay With sea views overlooking Coffee Bay’s main beach, Sugarloaf is a mainstay of this quaint village. The Coffee Shack – Coffee Bay Situated right on the beach, this is the place you want to book for days, months or a year. Mdumbi Backpackers – Mdumbi Mdumbi Backpackers is an institution along the Wild Coast. Perched on top of a hill with 360-degree views, the hostel is walking distance to one of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa, as well as a prime surfing spot. Amapondo Backpackers – Port St Johns Another hostel perched on a hilltop, surrounded by subtropical rainforests.
