4 local drinking holes make it into World’s Best Bars List Posted by David Henning on 29 September 2022 In the lead-up to The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022, award publication 50 Best unveiled some of the world’s best drinking destinations, voted between 51st and 100th in the extended ranking. The 51-100 list featured 32 cities with 15 new entries from around the world. Johannesburg’s Sin+Tax came in at 100, known for its delicious cocktails and vegan meals -as well as scrumptious pizza at a speak-easy style venue. The rest of the bars are all situated in Cape Town, with local drinking hole House of Machines coming in at 92. With the writing ‘Don’t be a dick’ adorning the outside window, pretty much sums up the attitude of the bar. It’s just a great place to have a drink without the pretension. The Art of Duplicity coming in at 88, also paying homage to speak-easy bars. Obtain a password, and locate the secret venue behind a warehouse in Cape Towns CBD with some of the best cocktails in the city. The highest ranked South African bar so far is the Cause Effect Cocktail Kitchen which aims to turn the art of local cocktail tradition on its head. They state that they are ‘inspired by Cape Town’s oceans, mountains, fynbos and vineyards. So, our CAUSE is to create amazing guest experiences through local ingredients which we EFFECT into flavour,’ where they infuse much of their cocktails with local indigenous botanicals. The top 50 best bars will be revealed on 4 October and live-streamed on Facebook and Youtube. Perhaps we could see another local drinking hole sneaking into the top 50? Until then, you know where to grab a drink – I’ll see you at the bar.
