Fancy Franschhoek? La Petite Ferme’s manor suites are our top choice Posted by Anita Froneman on 21 December 2022 What do you look for in a holiday stay? For me, it depends on the destination. If we’re going to the beach, I know there will be sand, wet feet and salty towels everywhere so functionality is key. But if we’re headed to the Boland, I want a slower pace, and definitely luxury. I want to soak up the views – and the bath salts. I want to sip on wine, linger over each meal and take leisurely dips in the pool. La Petite Ferme in Franschhoek delivers perfectly on all of those. And now, the estate has completely overhauled the four manor house suites, and added a fifth, to create the stuff of dreams. This wine estate, boutique 4-star hotel and restaurant offers visitors a fascinating combination of classic vintage and modern. The overhaul was thorough. ‘The suites were basically gutted as part of the renovations, providing a blank canvas for the new look,’ says Riaan Kruger, managing partner of The Nest Collection of which La Petite Ferme is a member. ‘Among the many changes made, we installed modern, crisp white ceilings, traditional window frames and doors were replaced with more modern aluminum, and the flooring was redone.’ Notably, each suite received a unique feature wall and is individually decorated in a theme from different regions of the world. ‘All the suites offer luxuries and carefully considered conveniences such as underfloor heating in the bathrooms, under roof terraces and air-conditioning,’ Kruger adds. But its real drawcard is something no estate can refurbish. Situated on the Franschhoek Pass, its views over the valley and surrounding mountains are a sight to behold and they follow you from the suites to the restaurant. The wines, too deserve a standalone mention. Even if you don’t stay over at La Petite Ferme this time, pop in for a bottle of vino. The winery gets it right every time, with the Sauvignon Blanc being a personal favourite – think light, yet smooth passion fruit notes and a delightful freshness, perfect for summer. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner from 12pm until 9pm (8pm in winter months).
