See the best of Cape Town on The Lion Trail Posted by Lauren Dold on 7 March 2023 Tags:Hike Cape Town, Lion's Head The Lion Trail An endorphin-fuelled, adventure-filled exploration of the Mother City. It’s Cape Town as you’ve (probably) never seen it before, a highlight reel of all its natural attractions; mountains, oceans, beaches, forests, fynbos. Founded and guided by Sea Point local and longtime Getaway writer Matt Sterne, the Lion Trail is a half day outing that showcases Cape Town’s wonderful diversity, from the city streets to the shady forests, to the breezy seaside. The five-hour hiking, swimming, scootering, snacking extravaganza begins at Green Point Lighthouse at 8am. From there, the adventure moves through Sea Point, up Signal Hill, pauses for panoramic views of the city and a mimosa samosa snack stop. It picks up again, tracking an unusual route around Lion’s Head before descending to Maiden’s Cove. Next, an icy swim at Clifton beach sets you up for the final bit of adrenaline: a half-hour e-scooter ride along the coastal road and Sea Point promenade, ending back at the Green Point Lighthouse. Whether new to Cape Town or a hardened local, the Lion Trail is not only for people who don’t know Cape Town, but for people who think they do and will be pleasantly surprised at what they see. It’s an ideal hassle-free activity for groups of friends, families, solo adventurers and couples.
