Speed safari – Aquila Private Game Reserve

Posted on 24 November 2010

If you reside in the Western Cape or are on a rush trip passing through Cape Town, looking for animal sightings in a hurry, then perhaps Aquila Private Game Reserve is for you. But, if you are looking for a more authentic wildlife experience, then perhaps not..?

Within two hours of Cape Town, just off the N1 (R46 to Ceres), you will find yourself in a comfortable setting at the edge of the Groot Karoo. Within a night’s stop and one or two games drives you are sure to enjoy the close sightings of many animals including hippo, elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, antelope, zebra, giraffe, springbok, wildebeest, buffalo and even leopard. That’s a lot of wild animals in a short space of time and you get pretty darn close – the pics are great even without a zoom lens. And this would be fantastic if it were a little more authentic and your guide did not make you feel like you were on a guided city tour: “˜next stop will be the elephants and thereafter we’ll take a refreshment stop before we move onto the lion enclosure”¦’ I kid you not!

So if you are looking for a true wildlife experience, rather take more leave and head to the Eastern Cape or KNP but as I started saying, if you want a “˜speed safari’ this could be the perfect trip for you”¦

From R1220 p/p self drive – includes meals

The 4 Star Accommodation Lodge is a little tired and the staff could be a bit more helpful especially considering they use the word “˜luxury’ fairly often in their brochure.
