5 things to do in Cape Town during Level 4 Posted on 29 June 2021 Cape Town is a haven for those who love the great outdoors and luckily, we can still enjoy the city’s beautiful parks, beaches, and hiking trails during Level 4 lockdown. However, remember that these outdoor spaces are not open for gatherings, but allow for a breath of fresh air for yourself and your household. When you do leave the house, always make sure to keep your mask on at all times and adhere to social distancing rules. Here are five fun things to do to keep the cabin fever at bay during Level 4. 1. Go to the beach Fish Hoek Beach sourced from Unsplash. The beaches in the Mother City definitely are one of the top reasons why people visit Cape Town every chance they get. There are a lot of beaches to choose from since the Atlantic and Indian Ocean borders this coastal city. Some beaches in this city run as far as the eye can see along the ocean; so do yourself a favour and treat yourself and your dog to a tranquil walk on one of the pristine beaches Cape Town has to offer. Some of our favorite beaches are Noordhoek, Fish Hoek, Muizenberg, Kommetjie, Table View, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, and Melkbosstrand. You never know, if it’s your lucky day you might just spot a whale along False Bay. Also read: The best beach in each province: Eastern Cape, Western Cape and KZN 2. Visit a park Company’s Gardens sourced from Flickr. Cape Town is very proud of its parks and the city makes a great effort to keep them clean. Company’s Gardens is one of Cape Town’s most popular parks out in the city and during your walk through the garden, you will come across a diverse range of bird and plant life. Gyms have been closed too so a jog through the park and making use of the outdoor gym equipment will keep you fit during Level 4. 3. Catch up with friends on a hike Elephants Eye sourced from Flickr. Cape Town has a magnificent mountain range with a mix of long and short hiking trails. Not everybody is a fan of strenuous outdoor adventure and exercise but we’ve got you covered with short trails suitable for children and beginners, too. The Pipe Track is one of Table Mountain’s easiest trails to hike up. The trail begins at the corner of Tafelberg Road and Kloof Nek. After climbing a flight of stairs you will reach a signpost at Kasteelspoort where your 33 minutes (6 km) hike will begin. Your hike will treat you to beautiful views of Camps Bay, Lions Head, and the ocean. The best time to hike up this trail is the morning. Elephant’s Eye is a hiking trail in Silvermine. This 50 minutes hike will lead you into a cave perfect for a quick snack break. If the trail does get a bit heated, take a dip into the Silvermine Dam on your way back to the parking lot. This trail is the children’s favourite because of the cave and the possible swimming in the dam. 4. Go camping in the backyard Sourced from Unsplash. If your travel plans have been foiled due to new regulations, you can always pitch a tent in the backyard when the skies clear up. This will definitely be fun for the children. Create an entire camping experience with a fireplace, stories, braaing marshmallows, and some singing. 5. Host a virtual mocktail party Sourced from Unsplash. This is something fun for the adults! Restaurants and bars are closed, but you can still keep in touch with your friends. Ring them up and host a virtual mocktail party where you try out new recipes, then enjoy your drinks with some good music playing in the background paired with fun chats. You can also try out some online games, like ‘Zoom Trivia’.
