Tested: Zoku Slush & Shake Maker

Posted on 7 November 2013

Summer time and the living is HOT. The Zoku Slush and Shake Maker is a nifty cold cup for holidays in the sun.

The Zoku Slush and Shake Maker creates healthy slushies, fruit smoothies and decadent milkshakes in 7 minutes – or so the box says. I found it took a little longer with some more coaxing, but the result was just as tasty as the pictures. Seriously.

To make your counter-top slushy, pop the Zoku cup into the freezer a day in advance. So, this will only work if your accommodation has a freezer or an accommodating Engel fridge.

When you take it out, fill with your drink of choice (milk, fresh fruit juice and other naturally sugary drinks work best) and let it settle. The hollow cup contains a frozen gel (much like an ice cream maker) that will slowly ice up your slush. Use the plastic spoon to scrape down the walls and make your own icy drink.

It works best if left for a while (about 15 minutes) or even filled and returned to the freezer. I made mine using fresh strawberry juice, but if you’re stuck for options there is a Zoku: The Art of Slush recipe book filled with creative treats.

The kids will love this over the summer holidays and so will you – think cold minty mojito slushy around the pool.

You can find the Slush & Shake Maker at Boardmans, @Home, Wellness Warehouse, ToyZone and online at Yuppiechef.co.za for around R250.
