Sleepy heads: travel pillows tested Posted on 8 November 2013 Tags:travel Get enough shut-eye on the road or in air with our choice of comfy travel pillows. Go Travel Snuggy Snoozer The inflatable, fur-covered Go Travel Snuggy Snoozer travel pillow feels like you’re sleeping with a teddy bear. It’s not the most comfortable option, but it folds up into a small package, especially convenient if you have limited luggage space. Costs R160 Cape Union Mart (tel 021-464-5800, www.capeunionmart.co.za.) Go Travel Kid’s travel pillow The Go Travel Kid’s travel pillow is brilliant for little sleepy heads. Both soft toy and foam-filled pillow, it provides support for their heads and ensures a comfortable sleep. The removable jacket is easily cleaned; just pop it into the washing machine. Costs R99 Mr Price Sport, (tel 0800-212-535, www.mrpricesport.com) Spine Align Neckrest travel pillow Compact and designed by chiropractors the Spine Align Neckrest travel pillow is shaped to offer the best possible support. Covered in cosy corduroy fabric that will wear well over time, it can also be tucked into a full pillow. Costs R180 Spine Align (tel 083-234-4131, www.spinealign.co.za). Samsonite convertible travel pillow Filled with polystyrene beads, the Samsonite convertible travel pillow has a luxuriously soft satin finish. The smart design allows for use as a wrap-around neck pillow or a sausage-shaped cushion for back support when the drawstrings are released and it can be clipped to luggage for easy transportation. Costs R299 Samsonite Store Nicolway (tel 011-706-6589, www.samsonite.co.uk ). Choosing the right pillow Make the most of your travel pillow by getting one that best suits your needs. Ask whether space or comfort is more important. Foam-filled pillows aren’t the smallest, but while inflatable pillows fold up, they aren’t as comfortable. Find a pillow with a removable jacket or one that is easily washed to prevent bacteria build-up. It’s more hygienic even if you don’t use it that often. Plastic can get sweaty, so opt for fabric-covered pillows. If you find wrap-around travel pillows irritating, head to an outdoor store for a small camping pillow which costs about R100.
