Wixworth Gin joins fight against rhino poaching

Posted on 9 April 2019

Local juniper creation, Wixworth Gin, is going the extra mile to help ensure the safety of one of Africa’s most treasured and endangered creatures, the rhino.

Wixworth Gin is a classic dry blend that harnesses the unique taste of its main botanical, Renosterbos. As part of their new bottle design launch and to honour their heritage, this dedicated brand will be donating a percentage of every sale to the Stop Rhino Poaching Foundation.

Wixworth is a truly South African Gin, made with no artificial ingredients, sweeteners or colourants, and comprised of a hand-picked selection of local Fynbos and botanicals, including Renosterbos, a favourite snack of rhinos.

Tying into the debut launch of the new Wixworth bottle, artist Daniel Hugo was commissioned to curate six rhino paintings and a giant rhino sculpture, with all proceeds funded directly to the Stop Rhino Poaching Foundation. ‘Rhino poaching has reached crisis point and across the globe the rhino habitat is shrinking drastically. Today, three of the five species of rhino are critically endangered, with two of these species comprising less than 80 of its kind remaining in the wild,’ says Elise Serfontein, representative of Stop Rhino Poaching.

The unique pieces were created not just to capture the beauty of the wild animal, but also to individually reflect the different botanicals used to create the unusual gin.

Wixworth has put a great deal of effort into supporting the fight against rhino poaching and hopes to help change the outlook for the majestic mammal.

The exhibition of these amazing pieces will be on show at Studio G at The Bay Hotel for the remainder of April 2019, along with the rhino sculpture in the foyer.

Gin-lovers can look forward to enticing aromas of warm spice and piny juniper with a vibrant citrus punch, followed by floral and earthy fynbos scents, when drinking Wixworth Gin. On tasting and savouring this gin, you will be able to make out the distinctive flavours of Renosterbos, Juniper Berry, Coriander, Cassia bark, Orange Peel and Angelica Root.

So, if your love for gin is exceeded only by your love for animals and you want to help make a difference, make sure your next purchase is Wixworth, and visit their stunning exhibition while you still can.
