The rolling hills of Durbanville are calling Posted by Anita Froneman on 15 November 2022 Cape Town’s Durbanville area is known for its warm climate, lush green hills and incredible wine. Especially the climate, because when the wind is howling in the southern suburbs, it’s likely to be absent in the north. When it’s chilly elsewhere, it’s usually sunny and mild in Durbanville and when it’s really, really hot in Durbanville we just put some more Chardonnay on ice. Picture: Durbanville Wine Valley The Durbanville Wine Valley has no shortage of European countryside-esque estates. Members include old favourites like Bloemendal, Diemersdal, Groot Phesantekraal, Nitida and Signal Gun. There are often fun events at some of the wine farms too, like live music on Fridays at Signal Gun and regular full moon hikes at Meerendal. Capetonians would do well to keep an eye on their favourite farm’s social media pages for special pairing events, themed festivals and other relevant information like special offers. But where to stay? If you’re planning on visiting the delightful valley from the surrounding areas, a stay-over is highly recommended to make the most of it. Protea Hotel Durbanville sits in the best location for a stay, close to the wineries and all other points of interest in Durbanville. Rooms are crisp and comfortable, and the hotel boasts a range of facilities including a pool, conference rooms, bar and a cellar-style restaurant.
