Why Constantia Glen is a must-visit wine estate Posted by Taylah Strauss on 24 June 2022 Resting on the rolling slopes of Table Mountain, Constantia Glen is the perfect spot to catch the afternoon sun and end the day with a fine glass of wine. Wine has been made in the valley since 1685, making it one of the oldest wine-making region in the world, outside of Europe. Spanning a total of 60 hectares, the wine estate is conveniently located on Table Mountain, where the soil is perfect for dryland cultivation, creating a distinct taste you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. From vineyard to wine glass, every stage of the production process is meticulous and prioritises high quality products while still being environmentally conscious of the precious biodiversity surrounding the wine estate. The Tasting Room The Red Wine Tasting option allows you to sample from a fine selection of five wines, all of which build upon each other, cleansing your palette and preparing you for the next. If you prefer red wine, then for R120 per person, you can come taste the range of smoky, spicy and dark red blends. The White Wine Tasting option goes for R110 per person, with a selection of six wines to sample from. White wine lovers can indulge on crisp, oaked blends, ranging from a light lemon taste to a more citrusy, acidic taste. If you’re not a seasoned wine drinker, the Full House Tasting option allows you to try a selection of seven wines – three whites, ranging in sharpness, then a light rosé as a palette cleanser, and then three red blends, ranging from a dark chocolate taste to spicy. Satiate your appetite If you’re someone who likes to pair delicious wine with delicious food, then you’re in luck. Soft cheese platters, charcuterie boards, soups, salads, gourmet mains and mouth-watering desserts, whatever you pick, you can’t go wrong. So, while you sip a crisp glass of wine and bask in the afternoon sun, you can enjoy your food of choice with the assurance that it is made using only high quality sustainable sources.
