Dark chocolate chilli brownies – perfect for Valentine’s Day Posted on 9 February 2010 Chocolate brownies are a perfect a Valentine’s Day treat for your loved one. These are moist, dark and spiked with chilli – definitely for adults only! You’ll need: 100g good quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids), chopped roughly 120 g butter 1 cup of brown sugar ½ tsp baking powder 4 free-range eggs 3 T agave nectar or honey 1 tsp vanilla extract ¾ cup flour ½ tsp salt 1 tsp dried chilli flakes 100g chopped walnuts 10 pitted dates, chopped 3 T plain yoghurt Melt the butter and the chocolate in the microwave on a low heat, stirring often so as not to overcook. Mix well to combine, and then add the sugar. Whisk in the eggs one at a time. Add the vanilla, agave or honey and yoghurt. Stir in the dates. In another bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder and chilli powder. Fold into the wet mixture. Mix in the walnuts. Pour into a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake in the oven at 180C for 40 minutes. Check that the brownies are done by inserting a toothpick into the centre. If it comes out clean, they are ready.
