Piggly Wiggly Country Village on the Midlands Meander Posted on 1 October 2012 There are diversions for all ages at Piggly Wiggly Country Village at Lions River on the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands Meander and they’re not all food related. Kids can try candle-dipping their own wax piggy or play mini-golf while parents shop. You could furnish an entire home with all the décor items found here, from wrought-iron benches to fine linen and cow-hide cushions. A gift for a friend is easy as you’re bound to find something to please just about anyone at Eclectic Magpie. I found myself rhapsodising over the quirky ceramic angels at Zulu-lulu Ceramic Boutique, then got stuck in Huddy’s Books which specialises in Africana and has some very collectible titles. Don’t miss out on a frothy cappuccino at Piggly Wiggly Coffee Shop as these have won a number of awards from the KwaZulu-Natal Café Society. The food here is equally delicious and it was recently recognised with an Eat In DStv Food Network Produce Award – just allow enough time as the service can be slow. For the ‘young and restless’, they offer tasty Piglet’s Toast, perfect if you’re trying to avoid filling them up on sweet treats. On your way out, stock up with quality local products at Best of the Midlands farm shop: free-range, hormone-free meats, fresh artisanal breads, thick Jersey cream, fudge in 10 flavours and mead … this is certainly a place where you can happily pig out.
