Joburg’s three best burger restaurants Posted on 13 November 2012 Tags:Cape Town, Johannesburg, United States When writing my last two posts (Top five pizza restaraunts in Joburg and Top five pasta restaurants in Joburg) I struggled to narrow down to just five spots. With burgers, I think we’re quite limited in terms of options as I believe most people get their burger fix from franchises like Spur, Nando’s, Steers etc. I am not going to put any of those on this list, so here are my top three burger spots in Joburg (gourmet spots, if you will). 1. Duke’s Burgers, Greenside Although Greenside can get a bit rowdy at times due to the abundance of bars on the busy Gleneagles Road, Duke’s is one of the best restaurants the popular suburb has to offer. This is the place to go if you are really hungry- their huge burgers will leave you struggling to find space for dessert. Duke’s pride themselves on making everything from scratch- they even bake their own buns. Vegetarian burgers are prepared separately and they even do wheat-free buns- really something for everyone! Get it at: 4 Gleneagles Road, Greenside, tel 011-486-0824, dukesburgers.co.za Pay: R65-R80 2. Gourmet Garage (various branches) With branches in Sandton, Montecasino and a newly opened “express” store in Atholl, these guys have got burgers down to a fine art. You can’t go to Gourmet Garage and not order fries, onion rings and if you really want to indulge, a milkshake, to accompany your meal. With decor reminiscent of an old school diner in the US, Gourmet Garage is a popular choice to watch your favourite sports game while munching down on some gourmet “pub grub”. Get it at: Shop 64, Montecasino, Fourways, tel 011-511-0526, www.gourmetgarage.co.za Pay: Anything from R60 (for a basic burger) to R130 (for a double gourmet burger) 3. Tasha’s le parc Bet you didn’t think this “breakfast spot” would have a good burger on their menu! You’ll have to wait to get a table (Tasha’s don’t take reservations), but it will definitely be worth your while. Situated in one of Jozi’s most exclusive malls, if you’re into trendy spots that you go to “see and be seen”, this is the place for you. All the food at Tasha’s is fresh and delicious, but their burger offering is particularly good- a simple, traditional burger that will definitely hit the spot. Save some space for their red velvet cake for dessert! Get it at: Hyde Park Shopping Centre, Jan Smuts Avenue, www.tashas.co.za Pay: R70 Looking for a good burger in the Mother City?
