New summer holiday market in Cape Town Posted on 26 November 2012 Tags:Cape Town, South Africa From 14 to 24 December, the Company’s Gardens in Cape Town will play host to the Cape Town Summer Market, a festive family market ideal for the holidays. And I can’t think of a better place to join in celebrating South Africa’s 360-year heritage. If ever there was a reason to take a stroll through this beautiful and iconic part of the Cape Town CBD, this is it. According to a report on Tourism Update, the market is the brainchild of the local government and will entertain the entire family. ‘This exciting new summer market is part of the city’s aim to provide integrated entertainment facilities for residents from all walks of life. The market will reflect the design elements that led to the city being nominated as World Design Capital for 2014,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Alderman Belinda Walker. The market will run from 12h00 to 21h00 daily and will be spread out across different parts of the gardens. The Family Coke Zone will be in front of the South African Museum, the Gourmet Food and Deli Zone will by under the oak trees in the Paddocks and the 900m of market stalls will be running up Government Avenue, all the way to Orange Street opposite the Mount Nelson. On long weekends, you can look forward to a bar and wine garden party in front of the National Gallery as well as a lifestyle and eco tent on the Paddocks lawns. “Visitors to the market can combine festive season gift shopping with live entertainment, fun for children and families, and relax with a picnic in the shade of the garden. There will be a wide range of goods on offer from over 200 stalls,” continued Alderman Walker. And don’t worry about parking and bathrooms; Alderman Walker assures us that this will be taken care of. Personally, I am very excited about this market as I can only imagine how great it’ll be to stroll aimlessly through the gardens and stumble upon all these great areas of fun, shopping and entertainment.
