The Real Food Trip: an expedition to find food stories Posted on 26 January 2012 Tags:eastern cape, Mozambique, South Africa This is our first blog entry on South Africa’s favourite travel blog, and we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves. We are Deni and Carlin: two people who love good food and a good challenge, particularly if that challenge involves packing our bags and hitting the road. Which is exactly what we’ll be doing between February and May 2012 under the auspices of our epic adventure, The Real Food Trip. The Real Food Trip is an expedition to find the interesting and ethical food stories of South Africa and Mozambique. Like we said, we love food. But we are passionate about food that’s grown and produced in a way that has the best interests of people, animals and the environment in mind. Real food. We’ve already been telling these stories for a year through our website www.foodwithastory.co.za, and what we’ve found has both excited and inspired us. There are so many good people out there, from farmers to artisanal food producers, being creative with their products in very ethical ways and making a real success of it all. So inspired have we become, that we thought it time we left the Western Cape to see what the rest of this country has to offer. And so here begins a beautiful fusion of food and travel. And we’re inviting you along for the ride! We’ll be starting on the windswept and rugged west coast exploring seaside villages and the ocean’s bounty alike. From there we’ll be heading into the ‘binneland’, meandering though the vastness of the Karoo before heading back down to the sea on the southern coast. We’re keeping a loose route-plan for now but you’ll see us getting through the Eastern Cape, Transkei, KZN, Gauteng, and Limpopo before crossing the border into Mozambique. We will be photographing and filming all the places we visit and people we meet, and blogging about our experiences as they happen. And you will be able to follow our trail through an interactive Google Map system which will be updated daily with our location and experiences. And as if that isn’t exciting enough, to get you in the mood we’re hosting an incredible competition in the run up to the trip. We’re giving away a hamper of artisanal food valued at R4000! Enter our competition and read more about The Real Food Trip on our website. We’re looking forward to sharing our discoveries with you!
