The Neighbourgoods Market: food for the soul Posted on 28 August 2013 Tags:Cape Town The Neighbourgoods Market is food for the soul, and the stomach! Few things can make me spring out of bed on a wintery Saturday morning (ten of the best cosy winter getaways), but the Neighbourgoods Market is most definitely one of them. Jozi’s Neighbourgoods Market is located in the energetic neighbourhood of Braamfontein on 73 Juta Street – a landmark building featuring a large-scale concrete façade by Edoardo Villa. From 09h00 – 15h00, every Saturday, the market buzzes and moves with hearty food, people and culture (come rain or shine). It stretches over two floors, the second of which boasts lovely views over our city – a perfect setting to sip on a flat white and dig into a syrupy, bacon infused Belgian waffle. Entrepreneurs Justin Rhodes and Cameron Munro started the first Neighbourgoods Market in The Old Biscuit Mill, in Woodstock, Cape Town (read more about the Woodstock market here). Their aim was to “revive and reinvent the Public Market as a civic institution”. The award winning market is now a platform for over 100 specialty traders. Following in its footsteps (and success) the Joburg market was launched in 2011, and continues to grow in trade and popularity. Neighbourgoods has become one of our favourite spots to take visiting family and friends. We love to taste and stock up on artisan bread, organic produce, extravagant cupcakes (for afternoon tea), raw honey and even bags of bushveld firewood.
