Getaway wins best travel blog at the SA Blog Awards 2010 Posted on 27 September 2010 Tags:Cape Town, South Africa The 2010 SA Blog Awards, a much-anticipated event in the South African blogging and online community, were held on 25 September at the One&Only in Cape Town. Thanks to loyal support from our blog readers, Getaway scooped up the Kulula.com best travel blog award. It was a very proud moment for us! We were up against some brilliant travel blogs so we feel very honoured to have won. The awards were a very swanky affair, as could be expected with a fabulous venue like the One&Only. The evening kicked off with drinks in the bar of the hotel overlooking a cloudy Table Mountain, and then moved on to cocktails and canapes in the conference centre, followed by the awards ceremony. Helen Zille gave a great speech on the importance of blogging, saying that ‘bloggers are the new voice of society’ and that digital communication platforms have the ability to ‘transform people’s lives’. On another positive note, SA Blog Awards CEO JP Naude pointed out that ‘blogging is slowly spreading across more languages and cultures in South Africa.’ What was really striking about this year’s blog awards was the mainstream media attention they have garnered. It’s very exciting to see that blogging is being taken seriously in South Africa outside of a small blogging community. Congratulations to the other blog winners! We love Guy with Camera, which won in the best photography blog category, Simply Delicious which won best food and wine blog, and the best green blog, Sprig. A big thanks goes out to the organisers of the 2010 SA Blog Awards and all the sponsors, especially the travel blog sponsor, Kulula, and an even bigger thanks to everyone who nominated us and voted for us. We couldn’t have done it without you!
