Greenpop reforestation festival at Platbos Forest Posted on 16 April 2012 Tags:Cape Town Join Greenpop for a weekend of tree-planting, morning yoga, delicious food and live music (Jeremy Loops and Co, Nate Maingard, Touchwood and more) from 11 to 13 May at the Platbos Forest reforestation fesival. Platbos Forest is an ancient indigenous forest an hour and a half from Cape Town, near Gansbaai. Like many natural forests, parts of Platbos have been cleared in the past decades to make way for cultivation. Today, these areas are being taken over by invasive alien vegetation, which poses a serious fire risk to the forest. The Trees for Tomorrow Reforestation programme at Platbos is continuously harvesting seeds, growing saplings and replanting the forest. Every year, just before the rainy season, they get ready for a major planting push. Last year Greenpop and the Platbos people managed to plant 1324 trees in 2 days. This year they aim to plant even more. You can lend a hand, doing your bit for the environment whilst having a blast. Space is limited so book now! Check out last year’s cool video.
