Winter escape: Take to The Baths in Citrusdal for a hot dip Posted by David Henning on 8 July 2022 In the thick of winter, what better way is there to warm up than lounging in a natural hot spring? When it comes to surviving the Cape’s winters, a visit to The Baths in Citrusdal is essential. With a natural hot spring flowing out from the Cederberg mountains, The Baths has been a mainstay of the Western Cape for hundreds of years. The Dutch authorised a family in 1778 to live there, keep the dwellings in good condition and provide provisions for any visitors that came ‘to take to the waters’. Fortunately, The Baths have undergone some renovations since, with accommodations including 16 chalets, 19 flats with self-catering kitchens and braai areas. There are also 25 caravan and camping sites with ablutions. Guests have access to hot and cold water swimming pools – the water can reach up to 43°C – in addition to tennis courts, kids playground, hiking trails, mountain biking and bird watching. Take a dip What’s great about taking this winter trip, is that it coincides with the citrus season in full swing. So when driving past Citrusdal, grab a pocket of oranges after taking the long ride up the N7.
