Five exciting waterparks to beat the Gauteng heatwave Posted by Olerato Ramafsi on 5 October 2022 The SA Weather Service has warned that the current heatwave, bringing scorching temperatures over Gauteng, the North West, Northern Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, is set to last until Friday. Picture: Getaway Gallery But worry not as we have compiled a list of the coolest and most exciting water parks to dip your toes and lose those clothes for amazing fun under the sun. 1. Happy Island Water World Picture: Happy Island Gallery Location: Krugersdorp Price: R220 per person Operating hours: 9am to 6pm Boasting Africa’s largest wave pool, measuring 20 000m2 and featuring hydraulic machinery that produces ocean-like waves at regular intervals, Happy Island Water World is the perfect place to feel oceanside without the travel. Two massage pools are available where guests can bathe and unwind while being gently massaged in the cool water. The pools are not heated which makes them perfect for a refreshing dip. But if you’re also a person of tradition and prefer the normal pool for doing laps and just floating around there’s also one on-site. The park has lunch sites all around which makes it easy for guests to picnic, relax, and have fun with their families. 2. ZambiBush Resort Picture: Zambibush Gallery Location: Pretoria Price: R120 per adult and 100 for children under 12 Operating hours: 9am to 5pm ZambiBush Resort is a popular place for a family day with lots of swimming pools, water slides, kiddies playgrounds, and plenty of other kiddies entertainment. The place is being advertised as Gauteng’s largest water park and its not hard to understand why. ZambiBush specialises in large family celebrations and kiddies parties. Set across lush gardens and lawns which face onto a local dam. The resort offers separate kiddies entertainment areas which can be utilised for parties while parents relax elsewhere knowing their kids are taken care of by the on duty staff. With over 40 Lapa’s, many pools and a tuck shop that sells refreshments and take aways, One can never stress about seating arrangements or what’s for lunch. 3. Cedar Junction Picture: Cedar Junction Gallery Location: Pretoria Price: R120 per adult & R100 for children under 12 Operating hours: 10am to 5pm Cedar Junction is located in Lynnwood Road, Zwavelpoort, eight kilometres east of the Solomon Mahlangu intersection. The park is an outdoor grassed area of 8.5 hectares with stunning views of the 2 hectare lake and the Bronberg Mountain range. They offer four sets of swimming pools and 16 water slides (all with weight and age requirements), catering to both young and old. Three 100m speed slides are on the premises while a baby swimming pool with slides and larger children slides are located in Cedar Junction’s centre. The lazy river which has three slides is located in the park’s front area which allows parents to relax while keeping a wary eye on their children. 4. Wild Waters Picture: Wild Waters Gallery Location: Boksburg Price: R150 per person Operating hours: 10am to 5pm Wild Waters is one of the oldest waterparks on the list and you’ll soon understand why. Featuring a variety of attractions including raging rapids, a wave pool, a super-tube slide, speed-slide, making it a highly effective antidote to boredom and overheating. There are also jungle gyms, sandpits, braai areas, volleyball facilities and putt-putt course, as well as an on-site tuck shop selling drinks and snacks in case you forget your picnic basket. 5. Aquadome Picture: Emerald Resort & Casino Location: Vanderbijlpark Price: Adults R70 and R50 for children under 12 Operating hours: 10am to 6pm If you’re looking for an out-of-this-world experience, then Aquadome is the place for you. The place caters for both adults and children which ensures tons of fun for the whole family. Whether you just want to relax or have a splash of a good time, the choice is yours. The kids however will love the waterslide and shipwreck, while parents and older guests love chilling along the lazy river or taking a dip in the warm waters of the indoor, climate-controlled Aquadome.
