The wild side of Namaqua National Park

Posted on 4 August 2011

I’ve spent the week in Namaqua National Park, and it’s been intense, both from a beauty and wilderness point of view. The flowers are now in full bloom and the colours are superb. It really is a phenomenon which deserves to be seen at least once in your life.

Then, for two days I explored the coastal section of the park along the Atlantic coastline. I was the only person there on a 60-km stretch of uninhabited shoreline, and a huge winter rain storm with gale-force northwesterly winds came through. My campsite at Boulder Bay was facing directly into the storm, and my Ford Everest bounced around all night from the wind. But I was happy. The next day, there was more rain, and then the clouds cleared, and the land was renewed.

Hope you enjoy the photos, and next week I’ll send some from the Richtersveld, where things get even wilder! Keep the faith, and stay wild.
