5 vibey places to pitch your tent along the Wild Coast Posted by David Henning on 4 March 2022 With beaches, bays and rivers aplenty topped off with the locals’ charm, the Wild Coast seems to have everything going for itself. So much so, that it is the perfect destination for a family holiday or a camping trip with your mates. We’ve compiled a shortlist of places to pitch your tent this upcoming holiday season. 1. Amapondo Backpackers, Port St Johns Situated on the grounds of a vibey backpackers, Amapondo is perched on a hilltop surrounded by nature. The spacious campsite has great views of the ocean and there is also a glamping option, where safari tents are fitted with a comfortable double bed. Rates: R420 per couple per night for glamping. The Coffee Shack This beloved backpackers also houses a small campsite, suited to 2-3 person tents (so large tents are only allowed during quiet periods). With a campsite overlooking the beach as well as access to a well equipped self-catering kitchen, communal braai area. Mbotyi River Lodge, Tilongo Mbotyi campsite is more of an upmarket venue, situated within a fully fenced area with 24-hour security and with all campsites having electricity outputs. Campsite amenities also include 8 eight kitchens equipped with cookers and kettles. There is a local trading store nearby, but with limited stock, so be sure to do shopping beforehand. Yellowwood Forest, Morgan Bay A campsite with 30 stands, Yellowwood Forest is a tranquil space along the wild coast, with a riverside, forested campsite. An eco-retreat, this is a nature lover’s stop, awarded Birdlife South Africa’s ‘Birder Friendly’ status. There is also a bar and pizzeria on the premises, serving great food and craft beers daily. Every Saturday is also a market day on the property and once a month there is a big craft and farmers market, so Yellowood Forest encourages its guests to pack light and shop local. Morgan Bay Caravan Park Situate on the banks of Inchara Lagoon, Morgan Bay Caravan park is a well-shaded campsite with beautiful beaches a short walk away, situated just 85 km from East London.
