Benguerra Bliss – Benguerra Island, Mozambique – travel blog Posted on 23 March 2010 After yesterday’s storm, today’s weather is serenely sunny. After an early morning horse ride on the beach we took a speed boat to Benguerra Island, 30 minutes away from the mainland. It was a fantastic ride across the kind of turquoise sea that you see in holiday brochure photos. We spotted dolphins, and more excitingly, dugongs. Our one-night stay on Benguerra couldn’t possibly have been better. We stayed at Azura, an upmarket ecolodge that managed to be both glamourously luxurious and chilled out. After a stressful and busy start to our trip we relished the indulgence of staying in luxury resort. We stayed in a villa on the beachfront with our own infinity pool and beach hut, which was perfect for watching the sunset. The service was incredible – a waiter came to find us at 5 pm to bring us an afternoon cocktail – and the food sublime (blue cheese and roasted butternut salad for lunch, prawn curry and panna cotta with pineapple and peppadew jam for dinner).
