Horse-drawn deliveries and free beer at Newlands Brewery Posted on 24 December 2011 If you like your pint with a slice of history, you might enjoy SAB’s latest monthly event. On the first Friday of each month, a horse-drawn cart will leave the Newlands Brewery and follow a historical route, delivering fresh beer to two of the best-loved pubs in the Newlands area. One of SAB’s master brewers will unload a barrel of Castle Draft and hand it over at each of the pubs and then – here comes the best bit – all present that are drinking Castle will receive a free pint. The deliveries will take place at around 1pm, so make sure you’re at Barristers or Forries for lunch with a pint of Castle in hand if you’re a fan of free beer! If you’re keen to delve deeper into local beer history, you could also take the Brewmaster’s Walk around the Newlands Brewery. The newly rebranded brewery tour takes you on a 90-minute wander through SA’s beer history, ending with a couple of beers in the Letterstedt Pub. Find great accommodation in Newlands, from B&Bs to backpackers and self-catering cottages.
