Onomo Hotel brings Africa’s diversity and creativity alive Posted on 28 November 2019 Tags:Durban For the professional who travels for business, hotels can be a dull and uninspiring place. They’re often filled with other business people, going to or returning from work. But not all hotels are just for those passing through. Some, like Onomo, are able to serve the community around them. It recognises that community is important and is a universal concept that has allowed humans to thrive for centuries. Onomo draws on African tradition in its design. The focal point of the hotel is its lobby. It’s the ideal place for guests and visitors to conduct a business meeting or enjoy an early morning coffee. Meetings room are situated around the corner and the restaurant is on-site too. It’s a hive of activity, and its warm African design is its charm. The focal point is the lobby area. With communities come collaboration and sharing and it is in this spirit that Onomo calls itself an urban village; a public space where creative individuals can thrive, in a place that is inspiring. The Onomo design style is based simplicity and functionality. The rooms are comfortable enough to make the leisure traveller feel at home, but the space is not cluttered. Everything in the room has its place and purpose. The bathroom finishes are modern and sleek. The wifi signal is strong and there are plenty of places to charge devices, which I was pleased about. The Onomo design style is based simplicity and functionality. The city of Durban is a bustling place and there are probably few hotels in the world so close to three world-class sports arenas like King’s Park Rugby Stadium, Kingsmead Cricket Ground and Moses Mabhida Stadium. If you’re travelling to watch your favourite team play, there is no better location. You’re also just a walk away from one of the country’s best stretches of beach – The Golden Mile. Durban is a playground in summer or winter and you’ll want to be near the promenade during the day. Before you head out, you should definitely catch some breakfast. It’s delicious and abundant. It includes a local favourite – boiled eggs in a tomato chutney. The pool area at the hotel. Onomo’s philosophy extends beyond the hotel premises. It’s deeply committed to supporting local craftsmen and women, and visual artists. A number of the works can be seen around the hotel, further emphasising its beauty. The message is clear: Africa is a diverse, dynamic and creative continent with much to be proud of. It’s a community of people who work and create together.
